BitCam

Proximity webcam chat for Minecraft: turn your camera on and players nearby see you in a bubble above your head. Like Simple Voice Chat, but with video.

Players nearby see each other in camera bubbles above their heads

What it does

Turn your webcam on and players within 24 blocks see you in a bubble above your head. Walk away and they stop seeing you. BitCam only does video, so it sits next to Simple Voice Chat or Plasmo Voice for sound.

  • Bubbles your way. Rectangle, square or circle in four styles: Classic, Matte, Glass and Neon. Size, position, opacity, zoom and how the bubble turns to viewers are yours to set, and others see it exactly like that.

  • Auto framing. Optionally the camera follows your face and keeps you in the middle of the picture. It runs in the native library, not in Java.

  • Your own video on the HUD, moved and resized in a HUD editor.

  • Privacy first. Nothing is sent until you press Go Live in the first-run setup, and switching cameras never turns the stream on by itself.

  • Control for viewers and servers. Hide any player's camera or all of them. The server decides who may turn a camera on: everyone, players with a permission, or nobody.

  • Keys: I turns the camera on and off, Shift + I opens the settings.

Under the hood

  • H.264 at up to 30 FPS over a separate UDP port, about 0.8 Mbit/s per camera at standard quality. Encoding and decoding stay off the render thread.

  • Quality presets from 320×180 to 854×480, a per-player upload limit and a configurable view radius.

  • Fabric and NeoForge on the client; Fabric, NeoForge and Paper on the server in any combination. A BitCam client also works on servers without BitCam.

  • One codebase for Minecraft 1.21.1 to 1.21.11 and 26.1, kept together with preprocessor macros.

  • English and Russian.
